Georges CLAIRIN (1843–1919, a painter known for his portrait - Lot 418
Georges CLAIRIN (1843–1919, a painter known for his portraits of Sarah Bernhardt, who was a close friend of his) / Signed autograph letter, 3 pages, in-8, to a friend: “I’m very sorry to hear that you broke your nose at my doorman’s place (I hope you didn’t hurt yourself)—I returned today and am pleased to see from your letter that the matter can be settled—At last, some publishers!… You tell me—let me know when you’re back and I’ll rush over to your place—it’s up to you, my dear friend, to choose the time and day—I’m at your disposal—I’m currently working in my studio at 159 Rue de Rome — I’m there from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — I’d be delighted to show you what I’m working on right now — So that’s where I hope to see you as soon as you’d like and are able to - I should have gone to see you to thank you for sharing the good news with me—you’ll forgive me, won’t you, for asking you to come instead to 159 Rue de Rome? I agree with you, my dear friend—we must get this done and take advantage of the publisher’s goodwill. Good heavens! How happy I’d be if I could finally illustrate one of your works! I’ve wanted to do this for so long.” — It’s possible that the recipient of this letter was Eugène MOUTON, for whom Georges CLAIRIN illustrated *Histoire de l’Invalide à la Tête de Bois* in 1887.
