DRÔME. Letter from A.S., Mr. BLOT, Captain in the Infantry R - Lot 73
DRÔME. Letter from A.S., Mr. BLOT, Captain in the Infantry Regiment of His Highness the Dauphin, at the Château de BORGAR (Beauregard?) December 5, 1739: “Your Excellency, Having placed my hope in your clemency, pursuant to your orders of April 23 addressed to the Lieutenant of the Marshal’s Office in VALENCE to arrest Mr. DESFOND and commit him to the nearest prison. He had been unable to carry them out because he was in MONTPELLIER following a case he had just won. Upon his arrival, knowing of your orders, he presented himself to the Lieutenant of the Provost to submit to them, and asked that he be permitted... to attend to his business... My brother has just turned himself in at the Château de BORGAR, where my company is stationed to guard the prisoners. And where I am stationed, which gives me the courage, Your Excellency, to take the liberty of imploring you to consider, if only briefly, the unfortunate situation in which I find myself—having my brother as a prisoner under my command. Hoping for your clemency, I earnestly beg you to grant him a pardon...” – 3 pages in-4° – Seal of the Order of Malta.
