NORTH. MAUBEUGE. Court brief from 1744. “Brief filed on behalf of Sieur LANFANT, Bodyguard to the King, Villeroy Company, respondent. Against Sieur PAJOT D’APREMONT, in his capacity as heir apparent of Sieur Bernard PAJOT, Baron de FRUNCÉ, his uncle, third-party opponent. And against Sir Nicolas-Léon-Phelippes, Lord DE LA HOUSSAYE, Lieutenant General of His Majesty’s Armies, Governor of MAUBEUGE, the opposing plaintiff.” “…In 1714, Sieur PAJOT de FRONCÉ conceived a plan to amass a swift and immense fortune by preying on the good faith of merchants. Having joined forces for this purpose with Sieur RUTAN, his brother-in-law, and Sieur GALABIN, they fabricated among themselves a prodigious quantity of bills of exchange, which they circulated in commerce and which were never honored… ” Printed by C.
