MURDER IN TARASCON (Bouches-du-Rhône) — Signed letter from Minister Marc Pierre DE VOYER DE PAULMY, Count of ARGENSON (1696–1764), to the Marquis de MONTEYNARD. VERSAILLES (Palace of) February 16, 1745. 1 folio page – “The King has been informed, Sir, that two soldiers from the AGENOIS Regiment—one from the SALIES Company, and the other from the DUPUY Company, having murdered a man named Barthélémy ROUSSEAU, a resident of that city, last year while the regiment was passing through TARASCON, the officers had promised compensation to the widow, who is responsible for several children. Since they have been suspected of aiding the escape of the culprits and have since given no word to the widow, I ask you to warn them that if they do not immediately fulfill what they agreed upon with her, I will have the amount withheld from their salaries…’
