Letter from A.S., Chevalier d’HAUTPOUL, written from Bourg-en-Bresse on January 26, 1766, addressed to his mother, the Marquise d’HAUTPOUL, in Seyre, south of Villefranche-de-Lauragais. (Postmark: BOURG-EN-BRESSE) 1½ pages, large 8vo: “Madam, and dearest mother, I have just received your letter with great pleasure, especially seeing that you are in perfect health. You always shower me with tokens of friendship, for which I am very grateful… My dear mother, I am in BOURG, a very expensive town. I continue to rely on your continued kindness. I would be grateful if you would kindly send me a few louis so that I may enjoy good company… We were sorry to leave our villages, where we lived more cheaply, were less exposed to expense, and were less burdened by our duties.”
