Marquis de SOMBREUIL (François-Charles VIRÉAU) 1720–Guillotined 1794—General, Governor of Les Invalides; took part in the defense of the Tuileries in 1792. His daughter attempted to save him by taking his place—A document signed “Sombreuil” on letterhead engraved with his name and titles (2 vignettes), for a certificate issued at the Hôtel Royal des Invalides on April 22, 1788. 1 page, large folio. “The aforementioned Paul PONET, a disabled soldier who has requested to return home to Bugey with the pension corresponding to his rank, will depart tomorrow on the road… He shall be provided with travel and lodging as a soldier from Brie-Comte-Robert through Gex, inclusive, where he will receive instructions on how to proceed to his home.” Travel visas for Nantua (Ain).
