NAVY. Louis Philippe de RIGAUD, Count of VAUDREUIL, Squadron Commander of the Naval Forces, Commander of the Navy at the Port and Department of ROCHEFORT (Quebec, Canada, 1691–1763). Letter signed on his letterhead bearing his name and titles, ROCHEFORT (Charente-Maritime), July 12, 1792: “At the request of Mr. D’ESPARBÈS, Monsieur de MONTESQUIOU FEZENSAC, Field Marshal and his relative, who was to sail on (the ship) L’ASTRÉE, will instead sail on L’AMÉRICA with his aide-de-camp and his men.”
