AIN. Jean Nicolas MÉAULLE (Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier, Ille-et-V - Lot 291
AIN. Jean Nicolas MÉAULLE (Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier, Ille-et-Vilaine, 1757 – Ghent, 1826), Knight, Delegate to the Convention from Loire-Inférieure. Letter signed MÉAULLE, The Representative of the People, on a mission in the Department of Ain, from BOURG on the 29th of Messidor, Year 2 (July 17, 1794), addressed to the Supervisory Committee of THOISSEY (Ain). The letter was sent under the Representative of the People’s exemption from postage. 1 page, in-8°: “I have just received, citizens, a letter from a certain VALLIN, a former nobleman (the Count of VALLIN), currently detained at the House of the Poor Clares (Monastery of the Poor Clares) in BOURG, who complains that the Municipality of THOISSEY refused to sign his certificate of residence even though it bore the nine signatures required by law; I do not know what reasons led them to refuse it to him; you undoubtedly have very serious charges to bring against him; I therefore urge you to bring them to my attention as soon as possible, so that I may reach a decision.”
