General CLAUZEL. Marie Henriette ADAM (1786–1841) - Letter f - Lot 439
General CLAUZEL. Marie Henriette ADAM (1786–1841) - Letter from A. S. Henriette CLAUZEL, from MIREPOIX (Gers) on the 6th of Thermidor, Year 12 (July 25, 1804), to her husband, Major General CLAUZEL, Commander of the 2nd Northern Division in Nijmegen. Love letter: “…you’ve given me hope that we’ll soon be reunited, but I’m afraid you might be mistaken again. The Emperor (Napoleon I) hasn’t yet assigned you a posting, since he’s reserving the first vacant position for you. We must believe he’ll give you a good one—as long as it isn’t with the Army of England… I’m still here with my big belly, expecting at any moment to make you a father; I’m quite certain I’ll have a daughter…”
