Autograph letter signed “ARMAND,” to his sister, November 30, 1810. 3 pages, in-4°. “…The brig L’INCONSTANT is to be launched in six months, that is, in May; you know my aspirations; I have not given them up. As I believe it will be the Grand Duchess who will ask the Minister for this command on behalf of the officers she has chosen. I would like His Majesty to recommend me to Her Highness and ask her on my behalf for the command of the L’INCONSTANT… If His Majesty writes to the Grand Duchess, he must say: ‘Mr. de MACKAU, First Officer of the brig L’ABEILLE.’ My dear Annette, given the current state of our Navy, the command of a brig is what would best suit a young man… I send you a thousand and a thousand kisses.”
