MARINE. FINISTÈRE, PORT D’AUDIERNE. 2 Certificates concerning François Guillaume PASSART, Lieutenant of the Navy, Commander of the corvette L’ALERTE, which, pursued by two first-rate English frigates on the sixth of last month, sought refuge under the protection of the forts of Audierne. He ran aground on the rock known as La Gamelle, maneuvered the ship, and ordered his cannons to be thrown overboard; the lack of rowboats prevented the rescue of part of the crew. The corvette, in a dreadful state, eventually sank almost beneath his feet.
