BERTRAND” (of Calvados) to his colleague SALICETTI—CAEN, 113 Rue l’Égalité (14), on the 12th of Prairial, Year 9 (June 2, 1801) – 1 page, in-4°: “My eldest son, my dear friend, has come all the way from Domfront to see me here specifically to find out if I have received any news from you regarding the position he is seeking in the gendarmerie or in whatever other corps one might wish to assign him to… The expressions of esteem he received in my presence from Generals La Barollière, Dalesme, and Prefect Dugua have, if possible, further enhanced the high opinion I hold of him. You know how strict my principles are; I would not recommend him to you if he were not capable of fulfilling the duties of the position he is seeking. … Please send me a brief reply to the address above, and rest assured of my wholehearted friendship.”
