Historical copies of Decrees of the Consuls dated 9 Vendémiaire, Year 11 (October 1, 1802). 1 page (21 x 16 cm): Decree of the Consuls prohibiting the entry of Blacks, mulattoes, or other people of color of either sex, from entering the continental territory of the Republic unless they are in possession of special authorization from the colonial magistrates, under penalty of arrest and detention until their deportation. On the same day, a second decree states that the plantation estates, houses, and stores in Saint-Domingue and Guadeloupe, having generally been sold at a paltry price in cases of emigration or absence, they shall be rescinded as of the publication of this decree in the colony, both for the benefit of the public administration of said properties and for that of the owner when it is necessary to restore the latter to possession…”
