Baron Édouard MOUNIER (Grenoble, 1784 – 1843) Secretary to the Cabinet of NAPOLEON I in 1809, he sided with LOUIS XVIII; in 1818 he was appointed Director of the Police and, in 1819, a Peer of France. Letter A.S., August 13, 1818, addressed to Baron FAIN at La Fontaine Brétigny, near Linas, Seine-et-Oise. 2 pp., in-4°. A lengthy letter concerning his correspondent’s son, who is about to enter the civil service: “I have written to RUMIGNY (presumably the General) to urge him to use his influence with the new King on behalf of his former comrades; but we would do well not to get our hopes up, for generosity is easier to profess than to practice… ” Enclosed is an autograph draft by Baron FAIN, 2 pages, small in-8°, dated August 10, 1818, in which he says, in particular, regarding his son: “… Place him wherever you wish, in the building offices, on your commissions…”
