Autograph letter signed “Chateaubriand” from Paris, April 25, 1826. 2 pages, in-4° format, with a few imperfections: “I have received your letter and your verses, Sir; I would have thanked you sooner had I not been in such great pain. Your ‘Ancient Mass’ is deeply moving; it deserves that you correct a few minor oversights. The verse is very beautiful. “You forgive those who never forgive.” The stanza “Go forth, young heroes!” is flawless and truly inspired. You mourn your brother well, Sir, and I sincerely share in your noble grief. Please accept, Sir, the assurance of my devotion and my highest regard. Chateaubriand.” Two small engravings are enclosed.
