I cannot assure you that he is any less a Villélist than a Jesuit ... with admirable impartiality he will cry out: ‘Quiet there, for a moment: ‘Silence, gentlemen,’ to any member of the Chamber who might wish to disrupt order, whether from the right or the left, or even from the center-left or center-right … If you were to grant his request to an old-school ultra—as I have been labeled—it would, I dare say, set a good example for those who still cling to old labels that no longer make sense, convince themselves—and seek to convince others—that we cannot get along, even though we equally desire the glory of our Prince and the happiness of our country…”
