Marc SEGUIN, known as SEGUIN Ainé, scientist, inventor, and engineer. Grandnephew of Joseph de MONTGOLFIER. In 1827, he patented his tubular boiler and applied it to steam locomotives. The SEGUIN locomotive operated on the St. Étienne–Lyon railway line. Letter A.S. “SEGUIN Ainé” from LYON (69) dated February 8, 1829, 2 pages, in-4° format. Addressed to Mr. RAYMOND, Civil Engineer in Saint-Étienne (LOIRE). “I received some time ago, My Dear Mr. Raymond, the letter in which you expressed your reluctance to continue the tunneling work with which you had been entrusted, and I had asked Mr. BLANC to inform you that I saw no obstacle to granting you complete freedom in this matter….” Enclosed is another letter from LYON, dated July 28, 1829, addressed to Mr. Raymond, concerning his fees and expenses for the project he was entrusted with for the Canal Company.
