Odilon BARROT, Member of Parliament for the Eure department, President of the Council in 1848–1849 (Villefort, Lozère, 1791 – Bougival (78), 1873). Autograph signed draft letter and 1 lithograph: Draft of his letter of resignation as Prefect of the Seine, which he would send to King Louis-Philippe I, written in Paris on December 28, 1830. 1 folio page. Barrot reminds the King that it was solely out of a sense of duty that he accepted this position and that he had been led to believe “that [his] mission would not last longer than the necessity that prompted it.” He adds: “I believe the time has come for me to return to my usual duties. Your Majesty’s government has demonstrated its strength; it no longer needs a politician at City Hall—a good administrator will suffice… ” (Appointed Prefect on August 30, 1830, Barrot had also been elected Deputy for the Eure department. The King refused this resignation, but Barrot eventually left his post in October.
