GASPARIN (Agénor, Étienne, Count of) Politician, writer, Deputy for CORSICA in 1842. (Orange 1810–1871). He advocated for the emancipation of Black people and religious freedom. - Letter from A.S. “A. de Gasparin” to A.S. de SACY, On the shore near Geneva, December 28, 1859. 3 pages, in-8°: “Sir, do not be alarmed upon seeing these three small volumes published. I am not asking you for an article in *Les Débats* or for your vote at the Academy. I am simply yielding to the promptings of my heart… after reading that beautiful preface in which you spoke so well of the Gospel… ” It is this Gospel that he, too, seeks to honor: “It seemed to me,” he confides, “that these humble essays might not be without interest to you. In any case, whether or not you have time to read through them, I know you will understand the sentiment that led me to offer them to you and to include a copy of *Les Horizons Célestes* ” (a work by his wife, Countess Valérie de GASPARIN.)
