“ALGERIAN ARMY” (printed letterhead). Letter A.S. from Gener - Lot 526
“ALGERIAN ARMY” (printed letterhead). Letter A.S. from General RENAULT (Pierre Hyppolite Publius; 1807 – died of wounds sustained at the Battle of Champigny near Chennevière in 1870) – to his friend, Intendant BOCQUET. ALGIERS, August 21, 1856—4 pages, in-8°: “My numerous general inspection duties are taking place amid scorching heat. I am overwhelmed with work. Since the units attached to my division are newly formed and arriving from the Crimea, I have no time to shake your hand and tell you that I have recommended your protégé, Captain BONNET, to his Inspector General, General YUSUF. The ranks of the officers arriving from the Crimea are unfair to the others… I have hardly given any thought to settling in Cherchell; I am still moving from camp to camp, wandering like the Wandering Jew. Please convey my respectful regards to Mrs. BOCQUET, and as for you, my dear friend, please accept the expression of my unwavering affection.”
