Wladimir LEFEVRE d'ORMESSON (1888–1973, diplomat and writer, member of the Académie française) / Autograph letter signed “Wladimir,” 4 pages in-4, on letterhead of the Société Française de Banque de Dépôts, Brussels (his father was the French ambassador to Belgium), July 17, 1908 (he was not yet 20 years old), to Edmond Napoléon Mortier de Trévise (1883–1946, future Duke of Trévise): He mentions his father, who is about to present his letters of recall to the King; they are leaving Brussels; He mentions his upcoming trips to Germany; he announces that he is sending his poems, “read them with an impartial, yet indulgent eye”; “It has already been a year—and only a year—since we met! It seems to me that from our very first meeting on Rue Monsieur, mutual affection had quite naturally paved the way for friendship, and I assure you that this path has never seemed more charming to me than since we’ve been walking it together.”
