SARRAU de BOYNET (Isaac de) 1684-1763: Quartet.... - Lot 127 - Vermot et Associés
SARRAU de BOYNET (Isaac de) 1684-1763: Quartet. Manuscript of 31 pages in-4. Quartet composed from 1715 to 1720 and performed in one of the musiclaes sessions of the Academy of Bordeaux around the same time (handwritten note of a family member). "Isaac Sarrau de Boynet (1685-1772), one of the co-founders of the Académie (Nationale des Sciences, Belles lettres et Arts de Bordeaux), was a musicologist, composer, viola player, and conductor. From the very first meetings, literary and scientific conferences alternated with concerts and even balls. A time was always devoted to music with cantatas, opera acts, motets and psalms. The academicians themselves formed a choir of about thirty people. From 1735 onwards, the Académie gave real concerts, open to the public, and around 1750 the Concert bordelais de l'Académie became a famous institution of Bordeaux life. The concerts always had two parts, one secular and one religious. Isaac Sarrau de Boynet even created under the aegis of the Academy a school of music, training young singers and instrumentalists".
