Count d’HOUDETOT. 5 LETTERS: Count Frédéric-Christophe d’HOUDETOT (Paris 1778–1859), Peer of France - 3 letters, A.S., 7 pages, in-8°, from 1846–49 - 1) to Count DUCHATEL, Minister, regarding a fundraising project - 2) to Mr. Couder, member of the Institute: He sends his servant to fetch a court ruling. - 3) Desperate news about his sick niece + 2 Letters from his brother Adolphe, Viscount d’HOUDETOT (Le Havre 1799–1869) Writer—inventor of the mooring-line cannon—who became tax collector in Le Havre, where he arranged for the escape of Louis-Philippe and Marie Amélie. Letter to A. S., Le Havre, July 4, 1862: “Sir, I neglected to keep track of the renewal date for my subscription to your charming and useful publication, *La vie à la Campagne*. Please be so kind as to bill me annually without further notice...” and to a general (good letter) regarding the regiment’s situation: “…several men… are not very handsome… The ones I’ve had here are generally superb. It seems that a few officers in the regiment took the liberty of writing directly to Lieutenant General LAURISTON to request leave... Messrs. Cluseret and La Farre had a pistol duel...”
